來聽「地震的聲音」 水底麥克風(fēng)錄下地殼撞擊聲

你可能已經(jīng)看過日本311大地震的慘況，但你有聽過嗎？科學(xué)家首度在網(wǎng)路上公布「地震的聲音」，是由所謂的「水聽器」（hydrophone），也就是水底麥克風(fēng)所錄製下來的聲音，由聲音就可聽出當(dāng)時(shí)9.0巨震的威力。
這水底麥克風(fēng)設(shè)置於阿拉斯加的阿留申群島（Aleutian Islands）附近，距離震源大約有1500公里遠(yuǎn)；這項(xiàng)研究由美國(guó)俄勒岡州立大學(xué)（Oregon State University）以及太平洋海洋環(huán)境研究室（Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory）共同合作而成。

Scientists captured this noise, which was made by Japan's massive magnitude 9.0 earthquake that struck on March 11. The quake is now the
fourth largest earthquake of all time. It set off a
tsunami that devastated the coast, crippled nuclear reactors and killed an estimated 27,000 people.
The amazing recording was made by a so-called hydrophone, which is basically an underwater microphone. The hydrophone was located near Alaska's Aleutian Islands, about 900 miles (1,500 kilometers) from the quake's epicenter, which was off the coast of the city of Sendai, on Japan's main island, Honshu.
The powerful quake has triggered hundreds of aftershocks, including more than 60 of magnitude 6.0 or greater, and three above magnitude 7.0. [

The quake was caused by thrust faulting near the Japan Trench, the boundary between the Pacific and North American tectonic plates. Thrust faulting happens when one tectonic plate dives under another. In this case, the Pacific plate is diving under the North American plate.
The earthquake noise was captured by scientists at the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory and Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore.
