Chandler: Yeah, I think for us, kissing is pretty much like anopening act, y’know? I mean it’s like the stand-up comedian youhave to sit through before Pink Floyd comes out.
opening act：開場、序幕。act有“戲劇的幕”的意思
sit through：一直挺到結束，耐著性子看完（或聽完）
Pink Floyd：是當今最負盛名的“迷幻搖滾樂隊”
翻譯：是的，我認為對我們來說，接吻更像是開場，明白嗎？我的意思是，就好比在PinkFloyd的出場前，你得耐著性子看完站立著的喜劇演員（的表演）。
CHANDLER認為接吻只是象開場白一樣，就如同人們在等PINK FLOYD樂隊演唱之前要先看喜劇演員表演一樣。通常在美國劇院里，在正式表演開始之前，會有一些脫口秀或滑稽表演之類的，以使人們在等正式表演開始的這段之間不至于那么無聊。CHANDLER認為接吻就象是人們在等'正式表演'之前的那個脫口秀，是不得已而為之的。
PINK FLOYD，一個英國的搖滾樂隊的名字。他們在上世紀7、80年代紅極一時，其1973年出的專輯：DARK SIDE OF THE MOON，更是令他們名噪一時。1996年他們的名字被收錄在搖滾名人堂。

特（mannequins），Marsha用現(xiàn)代人的觀點來解釋原始人，讓Ross很不滿。Bang這里是雙關語，字面意思是打擊，Marsha說bangother women over the head with aclub（高爾夫球桿），但是Bang在俚語里又有性交的意思，mastodon是猛瑪象，一種已經滅絕的古生物，carpet是地毯，幾種毯子的區(qū)別在于carpet是地上鋪的地毯，blanket是蓋的毛毯，rug是小塊的地毯。Cavepeople是原始山洞人，glacier是冰川。
Marsha: Well, she has issues.
Marsha是Ross的同事。issues之前已經講過了。在這里是煩惱、問題的意思。以后碰到別人好像悶悶不樂的時候，你就可以上前來上一句Doyou have any issues? （這個轉載于某個帖子）
Carol: Marty's still totally paranoid [ 'p?rYnTid ] .
Carol去Museum里找Ross,Ross非常尷尬，于是沒話找話問Carol的家人怎么看待她是Lesbian的事兒，于是Carol告訴他，馬堤仍然神經兮兮的。Paranoid這個單詞是類似妄想狂的意思，有點hysterical的意思。

Chandler: Oh, I think this is the episode ['episYud ] of Three'sCompany where there's some kind of misunderstanding
THREE'S COMPANY：是1977－1984由ABC公司播的一個情景喜?。⊿ITCOM），講述的是關于兩個女孩和一個男孩合租一個公寓期間發(fā)生的故事,任何看過THREE'S COMPANY的人都看過其中發(fā)生誤會的情節(jié)，因為里面有誤會發(fā)生的情節(jié)太多了。PHOEBE可能看過其中的一些，但不一定是現(xiàn)在演的這個，可是她一聽CHANDLER的話，以為這就是她看過的。

翻譯：你喝完了嗎？絕對地道的美語！through：有“完成；完成之際；沒有聯(lián)系”的意思。

RACHEL找不到訂婚戒指很著急，本來明天她就要去見BARRY，他的原未婚夫，并且還給他當時他們訂婚的戒指，可是現(xiàn)在戒指卻不見了，所以她說：難道還嫌我不夠煩嗎？并想象她明天和BARRY的談話：HI，BARRY，我就是那個頭戴面紗，并且讓你在你所有家人面前傷了你的心的女孩。（當時婚禮那天，RACHEL身穿婚紗，頭上也披著白色的面紗）天呀，現(xiàn)在我來還你戒指，但我現(xiàn)在沒帶戒指，這使得還你戒指更難了。。。
Dread懼怕, 擔心，veil 婚紗，
stomp踐踏，stomp是用腳踏的意思， stomped on your heart 是把你的心踩碎了
Joey: Alright, when'd'ya have it on last?
Phoebe: Doy! Probably right before she lost it!
完整的句子是：When did you have it on the last time?
Doy是感嘆詞，表示對一種事實是顯而易見的。Phoebe總是神經兮兮的。

Chandler: ...Dinah?
Dinah是小說Uncle Tom’scabin(湯姆叔叔的小屋)里的人物，她是個優(yōu)秀的廚師，但是廚房卻總是凌亂不堪。這里Chandler把Monica比喻成Dinah是笑話她在父母來訪前的恐慌。

Rachel終于回憶起了自己戒指的去向，原來她在幫Monica做Lasagne的時候不小心掉到面盆里了。Lasagne是一種意大利寬邊面條，以邊緣漂亮的皺褶而聞名。Rachel卻說Howstraight those noodles are簡直是南轅北轍，說明她根本就不會干活。
【場景】這時Ross一臉沮喪的走了進來，他告訴Monica Carol懷孕的消息。

Ross: Yeah. Do that for another two hours, you might be where I amright about now. (He enters.)
Chandler: Kinda puts that whole pillow thing in perspective, huh,Mon?
Ross用Where I am right now來簡練的表達自己的處境，這是值得記住的表達方式。
put sth in(to) perspective: to compare something to other things sothat it can be accurately and fairly judged
“這樣的話，枕頭的事就可先放在一旁?是不是，mon？” CHAN式的幽默，用來諷刺MON太緊張房間是否整潔的玩笑。

Chandler: I mean presumably, the biggest part of your job isdone.

Desperately拼命地，dig sbin/into…用肘碰某人的…，anecdotes傳聞，軼事，F(xiàn)olks指親戚，也可以指朋友。
Ross終于講了自己的事情：
Ross: (pulls his hand away) Okay! Okay. (To his parents) Look, I,uh- I realise you guys have been wondering what exactly happenedbetween Carol and me, and, so, well, here's the deal. Carol's alesbian. She's living with a woman named Susan. She's pregnant withmy child, and she and Susan are going to raise the baby.
here’s thedeal經常用來做開場白，美國人講故事或敘述之前常以次為開始。當Ross說道自己和Carol有孩子時他說，she’s pregnantwith my child這和中文的表述非常不同，應該記住。講到撫養(yǎng)，Ross用的是raise這個動詞
【場景】六個人在一起聊天
Ross: Well, y'know, these people are pros. They know what they'redoing, they take their time, they get the job done.
這里pros是正面的，Ross談他的父母很正面，很傳統(tǒng)。
Phoebe: Yeah. We don't speak. She's like this high-powered, drivencareer type.
Chandler: What does she do?
Phoebe: She's a waitress.
High-powered, driven careertype是精神旺盛，追求事業(yè)，但當Rachel問她是干什麼工作時，Phoebe說她是個服務員。

Wanna =want to,口語中常這樣子簡化，類似得還有”gonna”,就是going to得意思。
Steer是駕駛掌舵的意思，“steer clear of theword”意思就是好好駕馭這個詞的意思，暗示Rach不要隨便亂用“dumped甩掉，這里指被拋棄”，因為他作為一個男人自尊可能會受傷害，所以雖然這樣做很難，但是還是不要顯得太神采飛揚?！皌errific”口語中多半用來表示贊賞,雖然它的本意是“令人恐慌的，糟糕的”。

第二天在超聲波檢查室，Ross一進門就說be stuck at work，stuck是不得不做的意思，如：we were stuckwith unexpected visitors.（我們不得不應付不速之客）
Ross正跟Carol爭論給孩子起名字的事情。
Ross: 'S'funny, um, uh, we agreed we'd spend the rest of our livestogether. Things change, roll with the punches. I believe Julia'son the table..?
roll with the punches這句話來源是“Things change, roll withit”（世事難料，隨遇而安）
“on thetable”是“在桌面上，公開的”意思，Ross認為如果他和Carol的孩子是女兒的話，應該光明堂皇的叫做Julia。
Carol: Ross. You're not actually suggesting HelenWillick-Bunch-Geller? 'Cause I think that borders on childabuse.你總不至于讓叫Helen Willick-Bunch-Geller吧？我覺得這有虐待兒童的嫌疑
