1. Heaven runs vigorously, therefore a true man ought to follow the course of nature and enhance and promote himself and never rest.(天行健,君子以自強(qiáng)不息)

9. There were few who love someone and yet know his weak points, or who hate someone and yet know his strong points.(好而知其惡,惡而知其美者,天下鮮矣)

10.          To study and often review what one has learned, is that not a joy? When a friend comes from afar, is that not delightful? Not to be upset when others do not understand you, is that not the mark of a true man.(學(xué)而時(shí)習(xí)之,不亦說乎?有朋自遠(yuǎn)方來,不亦樂乎?人不知而不慍,不亦君子乎?)

11.          There are three points on which I examine myself daily: have I been conscientious in working for others? Have I been truthful in my interaction with friends? Have I reviewed what I was taught?(吾日三省吾身:為人謀而不忠乎?與朋友交而不信乎?傳不習(xí)乎?)

12.          I do not worry that others do not understand me; I worry that I do not understand others.(不患人之不己知,患不知人也)

13.          When I was fifteen I became dedicated to my studies; when I was thirty I could stand on my own. At forty I was no longer confused. By fifty I truly understood the ways of the world. 14.          It is better to like the way than simply to know it; it is better still to take great pleasure in abiding by the way than simply to like it.(知之者不如好知者,好之者不如樂之者)

25.          Those who love others are forever beloved, those who respect others will get eternal(不朽的) high esteem尊敬 from all.(愛人者,人恒愛之;敬人者,人恒敬之)

26.          Naturally I desire to live long and die old, but I also wish to make sacrifices for those things that I believe to be right. Should these two ever come into conflict, it is better to sacrifice one’s life for what is right.(生我所欲也,義亦我所欲也;二者不可得兼,舍生而取義者也)

27.          When Heaven is going to bestow(授予) a great task upon a man, it will always first make his will waver(動(dòng)搖)it will make his body tire; it will make him hungry and weak, fill his life with setbacks. Only this way can it galvanize(刺激) his spirit, steel(鋼化) his resolve意志, and increase his ability.(天將降大任于斯人也,必先苦其心志,勞其筋骨,餓其體膚,空乏其身,行拂亂其所為。所以動(dòng)心忍性,增益其所不能)

28.          A man at least ought to keep himself upright(合乎正道的), if he is in plight困境 and poverty; and he should try to benefit all under Heaven if he rises to prosperity成功.(窮則獨(dú)善其身,達(dá)則兼濟(jì)天下)

29.          Although blue comes from the indigo(藍(lán)草) plant, it is bluer than indigo; and ice is made of water, but it is colder than water.(青,取之于藍(lán)而青于藍(lán);冰,水為之,而寒于水)

30.          Without taking small steps, one can never traverse(穿過) great distance. Without the convergence聚合 of the small streams, there would be no vast oceans or rivers.(不積跬步,無以至千里;不積小流,無以成江海)

31.          Although the way is short, you will not finish it unless you walk it; although the task is small, you will never complete unless you do it.(道雖邇,不行不至;事雖小,不為不成)

32.          What has happened may serve as a guide or warning to what will come to pass.(前事不忘,后事之師)

33.          We should never forget a favor that others have done us, but we should not always remember what favors we have done to others.(人之有德于我也,不可忘也;吾有德于人也,不可不忘也)

39.          Never try anything evil because it is only a small fault; on the other hand, do not shun (避開)a good deed even if it is a small virtue美德.(勿以惡小而為之,勿以善小而不為).

40.          A person in old age ought to keep up his ambition, a person in poverty should not abandon his ideals.(老當(dāng)益壯,寧移白首之心;窮且益堅(jiān),不墜青云之志)

41.          One’s endeavors will always flourish through diligence(勤奮) and wither凋謝 through wistfulness. One’s actions will be successful through careful consideration and fail through apathy漠不關(guān)心)(業(yè)精于勤荒于嬉,行成于思?xì)в陔S)

42.          Diligence brings prosperity, and extravagance(奢侈) causes dissipation消散, this is true of nations as well as families. (歷覽前賢國與家,成由勤儉破由奢)

43.          The bronze mirror may help to view one’s image, the book of history may tell of the tide of time, the example of other persons may warn of gain and loss.(以銅為鏡可以正衣冠,以古為鏡可以知興替,以人為鏡可以明得失)
