The 2010 Shoton Festival, also known as Sour Milk Drinking Festival, is about to kick off in Lhasa, capital city of Tibet Autonomous Region, in which sport games attract much attention of the local people. A total of 256 contestants will participate in traditional events namely yak racing, stone lifting and tug-of-war during the festival, according to the Education and Sport Bureau of Tibet Autonomous Region.
The equestrianism race is an important part of traditional sport competitions, as well as an opportunity to present and promote the ethnic characteristics and unity of all ethnic groups, so participating teams have focused great attention on this game, said an official from the Education and Sport Bureau of Lhasa.
The application for the games is scheduled to end on August 1. Every county is now busy in selecting athletes for the upcoming festival. The top six athletes will be awarded in the game of yak racing and stone lifting, while the top four in the tug-of-war game.
