(ECNS) -- A study published by China Dark Matter Experiment in scientific journal Physical Review D has disproved a lab result in 2011 about areas where dark matter might exist.
The experiment, led by Tsinghua University, used the same detector as the one utilized by US-based CoGeNT Dark Matter Experiment, but failed to find the mysterious substance.
Scientists in many countries are searching for evidence to prove the existence of the hypothetical dark matter. The invisible element makes up 27 percent of the Universe and roughly 68 percent of its energy. Everything ever observed with available instruments adds up to less than 5 percent of the Universe.
China set up the world's deepest underground lab in Sichuan province during 2010, and has started expansions this year to allow more experiments to be carried out.
