Every now and then, we all need a little reminder of why we do what we’re doing when it comes to working out. It’s easier to keep up your routine once you’ve learned to love it, but in the meanwhile you might find it a bit of a grind. Making some little changes can help in a big way. Here’s a quick list of tips to help you get into it.
1. Don’t go in alone.Conscript a friend to come along on your journey. Not only is it more difficult to stay motivated when you’re alone, but having a friend can mean workouts become hangouts. Everybody wins.
2. Find something fun.
What’s your preference? Do you like swimming but hate going for a run? Then do that instead! It’s not rocket science that it’s easier to stay motivated when you’re having fun.
3. Focus on the many benefits.
Besides losing weight (though that’s a big one for most of us), there are lots of benefits to getting fit. Longer life expectancy, more energy during the day, and better overall health are all huge reasons to invest into your body… and the self-esteem boost shouldn’t be counted out, either!
4. There is no wrong exercise.
From walking to jumping on your kids’ trampoline, it’s all exercise. Even if you can just find little ways throughout the day to get active, take that opportunity. Take the stairs, walk to the store, even do some dancing when nobody is looking! It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t fit into a “routine” per se, it’s still going to count as exercise and you should feel better having done it.
5. Don’t start with boot camp.
More likely than training your endurance or strength, a boot camp schedule could make you loathe working out. Unless you need to do a lot of work in a short time, try not to overwhelm yourself. You’ll find yourself making excuses and suddenly “too busy” to maintain your workout schedule.
