I have realized that I have become a very open minded person talking to as many people as I can. Some people have the habit of talking to people who share the exact same interest as they do. There is nothing wrong with that. We all love to spend time with people with our same interests and opinions, but sometimes people hesitate to get to know someone that is totally different maybe because they are afraid or don’t want to bother. Now let me ask you this; what if that person that you miss the opportunity to talk to can teach you something that is very valuable in life or maybe inspires you in some way. You might even discover something new about yourself.
I was very curious to learn about investments, stocks, and general advice on how to manage my money well, so I asked my supervisor at the company I interned at. He is a college graduate who has a lot of experience in finance. I asked him about risks on investments and more about the economy and he shared all he could with me based on his experience. By the time I had left work I had a better understanding of budgeting in college so I can save for the future. If I wasn’t curious or didn’t care I would have never received that piece of knowledge.
If I just sat their on a couch or table reading the business newspaper or a book yes I would be getting useful information but I would have a hard time knowing how to apply it to myself. When you are interacting with someone on a personal level, there is more emotional energy involved and you feel more motivated when you are given some piece of advice.
There are musicians, CEO’s, successful entrepreneurs, dancers, authors, and even people that speak more then three languages who have lived in more then two countries. What if you can learn something useful from all of these people. My overall point is that you should go out there and talk to as many people as you can and be open and curious to what they have to say because it can have a great positive impact on your life as well. You want to be someone that is full of rich knowledge. Maybe an opportunity will arise as well! But you just have to be out there talking to people.
