Cornelia hernes was born and raised in Norway until she was 12. Her family moved to Africa. Cornelia went to boarding schools in Kenya and Tanzania. She is fascinated with exploring the human condition through painting, which can be attributed to her early exposure to different cultures. Her works focus on depicting and arousing a large number of emotions, and finally aim at celebrating life.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Victoria, Columbia University and the University of Canada in 2004. In college, she was familiar with the paradigm of conceptual art. After this degree, she trained in classical realism and graduated from the Florence Academy of art in Italy in the summer of 2007.
She began teaching at the Florence Academy of art, where she was a student in her second year, first as a teacher assistant. She currently lives in Sweden and she continues to teach at the Gothenburg Academy of art and Florence in her studio.
Since she started painting on canvas as a teenager, Cornelia was particularly interested in how to render human emotions and expressions through a classical realistic method, so as to create an emotion and story. Her interest in painting has expanded over time,
including still living in peace, internal intimacy and the power of mythological themes. She likes to draw some open images to create and personal interpretation, as well as meditation painting to celebrate the infinite beauty of nature and life.
