British theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking, one of the most famous scientists of all time, died Tuesday at age of 76, prompting an outpouring of sadness and immense admiration from around the world.

One way to remember Hawking's remarkable life is to watch the film based on it.
The Theory of Everything
'The Theory of Everything,' released in 2014, is an Oscar-nominated biographical film on Hawking that documents his life before, during and after his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) at age 21.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS):
His doctors told him then that he had two years left to live.
That means Hawking needs to race against time, and only in this way, time will slow down and his life will be prolonged.
race against time:與時間賽跑、爭分奪秒
In 2015, Eddie Redmayne won an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of Hawking. The film is based on 'Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen,' a memoir by Hawking's ex-wife, Jane Hawking.

Jane Hawking:
Hawking was a regular on set while the film was being made, Redmayne told the LA Times back in 2014, and made a particularly noteworthy appearance while the crew was shooting a scene involving fireworks.

Redmayne described the project as ‘one of the most extraordinary, terrifying and brilliantly inspiring experiences of my life’.
He spent six months researching Hawking’s life, watching interview footage, reading books about him and his disease, ALS, and discovering as much as he could about his mannerisms.

Stephen Hawking is known for his work on black holes and gravitational singularities, added that seeing the film gave him the opportunity to reflect on his life.
'Although I'm severely disabled, I have been successful in my scientific work,' Hawking wrote. 'I travel widely and have been to Antarctica and Easter Island, down in a submarine and up on a zero-gravity flight. One day, I hope to go into space.'
'I've been privileged to gain some understanding of the way the universe operates through my work, but it would be an empty universe indeed without the people that I love.'
Hawking went on to pay a touching tribute to the most cherished people in his life.
If death can stop everything, there will still be someone who will continue to write the pages of hope under the starry sky.
The real death is that no one in the world remembers you.'
“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don't just give up.” ― Stephen Hawking.
Look up at the stars and not down at your feet.
