Basically there are two different fingerprint reader groups produced by AuthenTec. Since Microsoft introduced its Windows Biometric Framework on Windows 7 there are also two different driver packages for each group, one with WBF support and one Common. How do I know which fingerprint sensor model I have?
TC readers (Eikon I / II / To Go / Touch included - typically external USB readers) can be identified by their Vendor ID number 147E. AES readers are typically built-in in laptops with the exception of Eikon Mini. You can identify them by their Vendor ID number 08FF.
The WBF driver package is intended for use by applications that use the new Windows 7 Biometric Framework API (SimplePass, TrueSuite 5, Protector Suite WBF Version) and will not work on older operating systems (XP, Vista). The Common driver package is intended for use by applications that use classic Windows Vista (and older) APIs (TrueSuite 4 and older, Protector Suite Common Version) but will work on Windows 7 as well.
